Lawyers of Battersea man to see alleged 'torture' files

The US government has agreed to let lawyers view secret documents that could prove MI5 agents were present during the torture of a British resident held by the US in Guantanamo Bay.

Lawyers hope the material will help free Shaker Aamer, a Saudi Arabian national who has indefinite leave to stay in the UK, and again urged the UK Government to press the US for his release.

On Wednesday, a High Court judge criticised the UK Government for wasting court time, which has had the consequence of delaying Mr Aamer’s legal team, who originally won a decision to see the material in October, from gaining access to the files until this week.
